Microsoft Clarity

Finding your Project ID

Once you have created your project, you need to find your Project ID to add it to your Conversion Bridge settings for Clarity. You can find it in the Settings tab:

But Microsoft Clarity already has "Smart Events"?

While Microsoft Clarity provides "Smart Events" which attempt to automatically indicate when predefined events occur (such as "Add to cart" or button clicks), however experience shows many of these do not get properly tracked. Instead, Conversion Bridge explicitly tracks these events for you in Clarity via their API and uses the custom Label you have entered for the event. Once tracked as a new Smart Event, you can then filter and segment your recordings to more easily identify the ones you want to watch based on the tracked events on your site.

Filtering by Smart Events

In Microsoft Clarity:

  • Go to the Recordings
  • Click on the "Filters" button
  • Click on "User Actions", then "Smart Events"
  • Select from the list of available "Smart Events" that have been tracked

It may take Microsoft Clarity several hours after the first time a session is tagged for it to be available.

Tracking Logged In Users

Conversion Bridge has an option that lets you track specific users on your site when they are logged in. This works by using the Clarity Identity API. To enable this feature:

  • Go to Conversion Bridge > Platforms
  • Click on the gear icon and open the Clarity options
  • Check the option to enable "Track logged in users"

When enabled, Conversion Bridge will send your selected External Source ID which is securely hashed by Clarity before sending to their servers to be stored.

When filtering for recordings in Clarity, you can search the "User ID" field for the respective ID you are looking for.

This feature may have privacy concerns - it is up to you to know if you should enable this feature.

Additional Properties

Conversion Bridge can also include custom properties about the current page view and set them as "Tags" in Clarity. This allows you to better filter for specific tracked visits based on:

  • Page/Post Author
  • Category
  • Tags
  • Logged In Status
  • Current User Role
  • Language
  • Post Type

For example, if you check the option to include the "Current User Role", you can filter tracked visits by a specific user role on your site.

I am not seeing any of the Smart Events or Tags

Microsoft Clarity can take many hours after events are tracked by Conversion Bridge to be available in the filters.
