What is the User Info feature?

Some analytics platforms allow you to pass non-personally identifiable information about the currently logged in user. For example: If you are using one of the supported plugins, you can include additional metadata/properties from the plugin along with the standard page view data.

Why would I enable this?

Adding additional metadata/properties to your analytics platform helps you understand how different types of users interact with your site. Without it, you’re just tracking anonymous page views. You don’t know if a visitor is a paying customer, a free member, or not a member at all.

Here’s how that extra layer of data can be helpful:

Segment your audience better in your analytics platform

You can filter your reports based on users being a member/non-member or even specifically which membership they have. It helps you see how different users behave without needing to store or share personally identifiable info.

Measure member engagement

See how often paying members log in and what content they view most. If members are paying monthly but rarely visiting, that could be a red flag users may not be finding value in their membership.

Compare behavior across membership levels

If you have multiple membership tiers (like Basic, Pro, VIP), you can compare how each group uses the site. Maybe Pro members view your video tutorials more than Basic members. That could help you decide what features to promote when upselling.

Improve content strategy

Let’s say you write weekly blog posts. If you notice that non-members are reading most of your public posts but not signing up, you might need a stronger call to action or lead magnet. If paying members aren’t reading your members-only content, maybe it’s time to improve or restructure it.

How It Works

The supported plugins will check the current status of the user viewing the page. If they are logged in, they will look up the user's membership status and provide to additional metadata/properties to pass along with the page view data:

  • is_member: true/false
  • membership: Name of the membership

Each platform will work a little differently, but you can then use this data to filter your traffic data to view what those specific users are doing on your website.

FAQs

Does this affect page load times?

No. The metadata is added to existing tracking events, so there’s no noticeable delay or extra network request involved.

Is this GDPR compliant?

Yes. The data added does not include personally identifiable information (PII). It’s just a label that says the current visitor is a member and what level they belong to. Still, always check with your legal team or privacy officer.

Can I create reports based on membership status?

Yes. In the supported analytics platforms, you can set up custom dimensions or properties to filter and view traffic data by their membership status or level.
